What types of editing do I offer?
- Copy-editing: correcting spelling, grammar, English usage; fact-checking;
checking mathematical accuracy of numerical material; ensuring internal
consistency of style and format; clarification of awkward sentences; and
formatting references and citations
- Revision of translations (from French to English): comparative reading
for accuracy; editing for tone and "flavour" of the original
- Plain language editing: making a document more understandable
by converting convoluted text to plain and straightforward language
- Proofreading: from non-comparative proofreading for typographical
errors and inconsistencies to comparing corrected copy to live copy
How long does it take?
- Time taken is directly related to quality of text submitted and the
type of editing desired.
- Estimates are provided, based on a sample of the text.
- In proofreading and copy-editing, 6 to 10 pages an hour for
average text is a starting point.
- With revision of translations, time taken depends a great
deal on the quality of the translation.
How much does it cost?
- This is directly related to length of time taken.
- Quotes can be provided, on a per-hour or per-contract basis.
